Although some claim that this is an example of the traditionally high-brow show lowering their standards, presenter Melvyn Bragg has denied "dumbing down", insisting that Walliams and Lucas' work is "hitting new heights of comedy".
He told the Daily Telegraph: "From the very beginning The South Bank Show has done features on high-quality artists from across the spectrum," he is quoted as saying.
"People like John Cleese and Billy Connolly have featured and I think that Little Britain is squarely in that area. It is preposterous that anyone would even think that we are dumbing down."
