'John Bishop's Britain' amuses 3.9m

John Bishop's Britain launched to a respectable 3.85m (19.6%) for BBC One on Saturday night, overnight data indicates.

Earlier, The Incredibles provided the channel's evening programming a fairly decent lead-in of 2.86m (20.6%) from 5.15pm. 101 Ways To Leave A Gameshow followed with 3.93m (22.6%), after which John Barrowman's Tonight's The Night notched up 4.27m (22.4%).

Over on ITV1, Odd One In and Magic Numbers fell to 2.67m (15.1%) and 2.77m (14.4%) respectively. However, 30 Years of An Audience With rose slightly to 3.35m (15.8%) at 9pm.

Big Brother slipped to 1.68m (7.9%) for Channel 4. Prior to that, the network's repeat of drama The Queen put in 1.34m (7%). Later on, a repeat of Misfits mustered 633k (3.7%).

BBC Two's coverage of the Proms had 900k (4.9%), before 1.87m (8.7%) and 1.42m (7.1%) watched repeats of Have I Got News For You and Mock The Week.

Meanwhile, Five stayed over the million barrier throughout primetime as NCIS, CSI: Miami and CSI pulled in 1.19m (6.2%), 1.05m (5%) and 1.22m (6.7%) respectively.

Overall, BBC One cleaned up with 22.3% against 14.9% for ITV1. Channel 4 averaged 6.5% [+1: 0.8%], while BBC Two and Five took 6.1% and 6% of the audience.

Elsewhere, FilmFour's screening of Hitman appealed to 704k (3.6%).
