The BBC has begun searching for the right man to play Robin Hood in their new Saturday night drama series, which will be written by Dominic Minghella, brother of director Anthony.
BBC drama commissioning controller Jane Tranter called the part “iconic???, saying that they were looking for “fresh, young talent.???
Produced with Tiger Aspect, who have worked on well-known shows including Teachers and the Vicar of Dibley, it will be broadcast in the Doctor Who timeslot, which the BBC hope will attract a family audience, as well as high ratings.
Tiger Aspect say they don’t want to use too many computer effects, and will be looking for actors who can shoot longbows!
The last time a serious slant was taken on the Robin Hood theme on TV was 1980s ITV drama Robin of Sherwood, which starred first Michael Praed, followed by Jason Connery.
Casting for the new series has not yet begun.
