Countdown to MTV Europe awards underway
Published Thursday, Nov 3 2005, 17:09 GMT | By Miriam Zendle
The MTV Europe Music Awards are set for 8pm tonight, where Madonna will be giving the first live TV performance of new single Hung Up, which samples Abba track Gimme!Gimme!Gimme! (A Man After Midnight). The popstrel begged the group to let her sample them, which they notoriously rarely, if ever, allow.
As well as Madonna, Gorillaz and Robbie Williams will be performing. It is hoped that UK talent will do better than last year, with Gorillaz and Coldplay currently holding 5 nominations apiece. As well as this, James Blunt, Kaiser Chiefs and U2 are holding the flag for Britain tonight.
Sacha Baron Cohen, best known as Ali G, will host the awards as fake Kazakhstani TV journalist Borat, bringing in guest presenters including the Sugababes, Luis Figo and R&B star Craig David.
The show will be live on MTV from 8pm.
