Lewis fight draws 1.4 million

Lennox Lewis' defeat attracted a mammoth audience share to BBC1 in the early hours of Sunday morning.

An average of 1.2 million stayed up to watch World Heavyweight Championship Boxing coverage between 03.15 and 05.00.

The programme averaged a 74% share overall, and hit a peak of 1.4 million. It averaged 0.5 million in multichannel homes.

A highlights show, broadcast in peaktime later that day, fared less well however. The repeat averaged just 5 million (21%) for the hour starting 19.00.

On ITV, Lily Savage's Blankety Blank managed 6.8 million, followed by Coronation Street with 13.8 million.

At 20.00, Where The Heart Is returned to ITV, averaging 9.5 million (36%) for the hour. On BBC1, Ground Force and Alistair McGowan's Big Impression pulled 8 million (31%) and 7.2 million (27%) respectively.

New drama series Murder In Mind pulled 6.4 million (26%) in the hour starting 21.00 on BBC1.

New ITV comedy series High Stakes debuted at 22.00 with an audience of 5.9 million (29%), beating the BBC Ten O'Clock News with 4.9 million.

Overall, a good night for BBC1, averaging 26.2% overall during peaktime, up 3.5% on last week.
