Eamonn Holmes has apparently revealed that he turned down an offer to host ITV's new breakfast programme.

Daybreak, which replaced the axed GMTV, began this week with ex-One Show duo Adrian Chiles and Christine Bleakley at the helm.

The former GMTV host told Bang Showbiz that he had declined the presenting role, choosing to remain at Sky News.

"I was asked to do it, yes," he admitted. "But I've no regrets about saying no. I've found a very natural home at Sky News. I've had my time, it's time for somebody else to have theirs."

He confessed that he had not yet seen the new programme.

"I haven't seen one single bit of Daybreak," he said. "We are very happy with the product we have got in the morning and we know it is a great compliment to us that Daybreak have copied a lot of the elements that we've got, and they've tried to get a lot of our presenters."

Daybreak launched on Monday, watched by an average of 980,000 viewers.
