ITV ties down Jeremy Kyle for two years

The exclusive contract comes as the broadcaster begins a drive to tie down key talent following the shock defection of Paul O'Grady to Channel 4 earlier this month.
"I felt at home as soon as I stepped into the ITV studios and this is a thrilling time for me," said Kyle in a statement. "The popularity of the show last year has been mind-blowing. I am so pleased people are enjoying the format and the subjects we tackle."
Since its launch last July, ratings for The Jeremy Kyle show have steadily grown to almost 2 million, more than Trisha had in the slot before her defection to Five.
"Jeremy and his show have surpassed everyone's expectations and the team have great plans for the next series," said Simon Shaps, ITV's director of television. "He is simply a talk show star. He understands the issues and has a unique ability to deliver strong advice with complete compassion and empathy for the people who share their problems with him."
