Christine Bleakley has claimed that Daybreak is finding its feet and evolving as a show.

The presenter said that last week had been a turning point for the ITV1 breakfast programme, which has seen ratings increase to around 800,000 viewers.

She told the News of the World: "There's been a real turn since last week. We feel like we're finding our feet. It's a case of changing things that don't work and hoping people decide to give it a go.

"Things have to evolve. There's been the odd personal dig that can be hurtful - I've had to get tougher and that doesn't come naturally to me."

Speaking of public reaction to her multi-million pound move to ITV, she added: "Once money's mentioned everything changes. But I can honestly put my hand on my heart and tell you it was nothing to do with money.

"I come from a very modest background. I don't come from a wealthy family. My sister worked in a bank, my brother-in-law is a firefighter, my mum's retired. I worked a long time without getting paid and money never came into it."

The former One Show host also revealed that she has a "real loyalty" to co-presenter Adrian Chiles.
