Latest 'American Idol' results

The first four contestants have been cut from American Idol as public voting gets underway.

From the hand-picked pool of 24 hopefuls, comprising twelve boys and twelve girls, two of each gender will be eliminated each week until the final twelve remain.

Losing out this week were Bobby Bennett, who sang 'Copacabana'; Patrick Hall, who sang 'Come To My Window'; Beck O'Donohue, who sang 'Because The Night'; and Stevie Scott, who sang 'To Where You Are'.

An estimated 40 million votes had been cast.
