Footage from the BBC's Natural History Unit has been made available – for free – online.
The database, named the Open Earth Archive, will include some previously unseen material from current wildlife series Planet Earth.
Users are encouraged to download clips and use them in their own work, under the corporation's Creative Archive Licence scheme. Earlier this year the project released archives of news coverage.
The ongoing project – first suggested by former director general Greg Dyke in 2003 –aims to inspire creative use and engagement with the material.
