Peter Kay has been cast as a villain in the new series of Doctor Who.
The comedian will be ditching the gags to play Victor Kennedy, described as "cold and powerful", in episode ten of the new series.
"Casting of Peter came about after he wrote me the most brilliant letter to say how much he'd enjoyed series one of Doctor Who," said series producer Russell T Davies, who has penned Kay's episode. "From that point on we started talking about a guest appearance. However, this is not a comedy turn - Peter is a versatile actor."
Other stars making cameos in the new series include Anthony Head, Maureen Lipman and Tracy-Ann Oberman.
