The murder mystery programme, in which Nettles has appeared 81 times as DCI Tom Barnaby, averaged 6.89m (27.1%) for ITV1 between 8pm and 10pm. Earlier, The Unforgettable Les Dawson pulled in 4.29m (18.6%) from 7.30pm.
On BBC One, The One Show entertained 4.87m (22.6%) from 7pm and Waterloo Road had 4.6m (18.6%) in the 8pm hour. Motorway Cops mustered 3.46m (14.2%) from 9pm and a mid-week Match of the Day grabbed 2.7m (25.3%) from 10.45pm.
Beauty and the Beast: Ugly Face of Prejudice fetched 2.07m (8.4%) on Channel 4 in the 8pm hour and 342k (1.4%) on timeshift. Mary Portas: Secret Shopper brought in 2.08m (8.5%) from 9pm and 294k (1.6%) an hour later. The Joy of Teen Sex educated 1.38m (7.7%) from 10pm and 208k (2.1%) on +1.
A repeat of Top Gear took 1.56m (7%) on BBC Two in the 7pm hour, before Michel Roux's Service fetched 1.66m (6.7%). Who Gets The Best Jobs? had 1.21m (5%) in the 9pm hour and Have I Got Old News For You amused 1.31m (6.6%) from 10pm.
Channel 5's Monkey Life grabbed 534k (2.3%) from 7.30pm, before Cowboy Builders had 1.44m (5.8%). NCIS and Law & Order: Criminal Intent brought in respective audiences of 1.41m (5.8%) and 981k (5.4%) from 9pm.
Overall, ITV1 won primetime with 24.4% against BBC One's 21.1%. Channel 4 came in third with 7.1% (+1: 0.9%), followed by BBC Two with 6.2% and Channel 5 with 4.7%.
