The show in question, which aired in the UK at the end of January, contained a number of jokes about Mexicans, ultimately leading to the Mexican Ambassador writing a letter of complaint to the BBC.
It has now been confirmed that the offending remarks will be edited out of the episode for US transmission, reports PA.
A BBC spokesman did not comment on whether the Ambassador's objection factored into the decision, declaring: "Top Gear episodes are routinely edited for international transmission, both to fit broadcasters' time slots and for rights reasons."
Comedian Steve Coogan recently condemned the programme over the incident.
