Rupert Penry-Jones has confirmed that he is working on a third series of Whitechapel.

Followers of the murder drama on the DS forums have been speculating as to whether the second series - which centred around a modern-day incarnation of the Kray twins - would be its last after ratings fell drastically last year.

Penry-Jones, who plays DI Joseph Chandler in the show, told TV Choice: "I'm making a new series of Whitechapel, which I really love doing."

There has, however, been no official confirmation from ITV regarding a new run of the drama, which premiered in 2009 to over eight million viewers.

The actor is currently promoting new legal drama Silk, which premieres next Monday at 9pm on BBC One.
