Hart, 'X Factor', 'Enders win RTS Awards

Miranda, This Is England '86 and EastEnders have emerged as some of the big winners at this year's Royal Television Society Programme Awards.

At the ceremony, which was held in London last night, BBC sitcom Miranda was given the 'Scripted Comedy' prize, while its star Miranda Hart walked away with the 'Comedy Performance' trophy.

EastEnders beat out Coronation Street and Casualty to land the 'Soap & Continuing Drama' award, and The X Factor was triumphant in the 'Entertainment' category.

This Is England '86 led the way in the nominations and managed to pick up two awards - 'Actor (Female)' for Vicky McClure and 'Writer - Drama' for Jack Thorne and Shane Meadows.

Steven Moffat was presented with the prestigious 'Judges' Award' for his work on shows such as Doctor Who, Coupling and Sherlock, the latter of which scooped this year's 'Drama Series' accolade.

Elsewhere, there were awards for Professor Brian Cox and his Wonders of the Solar System series, Ant & Dec collected yet another 'Entertainment Performance' prize, and Pineapple Dance Studios was recognised as the best 'Features And Lifestyle Series'.
