'Candy Cabs' waves goodbye to 1m viewers

New BBC comedy Candy Cabs lost more than 1m viewers on Tuesday evening, but still outperformed Smugglers on ITV1, the latest audience data has revealed.

Candy Cabs, starring Claire Sweeney, Jo Joyner and Paul Nicholls, averaged 4.27m (17.6%) for BBC One in the 9pm hour, down 1.21m on last week's debut episode.

However, the show still proved too strong for Smugglers, a new reality series following the work of the UK Borders Agency, which had 3.38m (13.9%) on ITV1 and 195k (1.1%) on +1.

Also in the 9pm hour, Filthy Cities sniffed out 1.85m (7.6%) on BBC Two and 99k (0.4%) on BBC HD, while Katie: My Beautiful Friends captivated 1.37m (5.6%) on Channel 4 and 229k (1.3%) on +1.

Earlier, Grimefighters cleaned up 2.22m (10.4%) on ITV1 from 7.30pm and 108k (0.5%) on timeshift. BBC One's Holby City fetched 5.48m (23.5%) in the 8pm hour, beating Countrywise's 2.9m (12.5%) on ITV1.

Over at BBC Two, Coast mustered 1.6m (7.9%) in the 7pm hour. Britain's Next Big Thing, a new series about budding retail entrepreneurs presented by Dragons' Den star Theo Paphitis, debuted with 1.48m (6.4%) from 8pm. Later Live With Jools Holland appealed to 730k (3.8%) from 10pm.

Channel 4's Supersize Vs Superskinny gobbled up 1.81m (7.8%) in the 8pm hour and 226k (0.9%) on timeshift. Campus amused 540k (3.2%) from 10pm.

Extraordinary Dogs entertained 512k (2.4%) on Channel 5 from 7.30pm, before documentary Tutankhamen: The Mystery Revealed captivated 810k (3.5%). CSI and CSI: Miami brought in 2.25m (9.2%) and 1.15m (6.7%) respectively from 9pm.

Overall, BBC One owned primetime with 22.7% against ITV1's 14.6% (+1: 0.5%). BBC Two came third with 6.6%, followed by Channel 5 with 5.4% and Channel 4 with 5% (+1: 0.8%).

Elsewhere, White Van Man amused 729k (4.9%) on BBC Three from 10.30pm. Is Breast Best?: Cherry Healey Investigates pulled in 633k (2.6%) on the channel in the 9pm hour.

Katie Price's new reality show Katie slumped to 258k (1.1%) on Sky Living in the 9pm hour.
