'The Hotel' opens with nearly 2m on C4

Channel 4's new reality series The Hotel opened with almost 2 million viewers on Sunday night, but ITV1's Lewis again dominated primetime, the latest audience data has revealed.

The Hotel, a docusoap from the makers of One Born Every Minute, averaged 1.94m (8%) for Channel 4 in the 8pm hour and 336k (1.4%) on +1.

On BBC One, Britain's Royal Weddings, a two-part mini-series presented by Sophie Raworth, entertained 3.88m (15.8%) in the 9pm hour. It was preceded on the channel by Antiques Roadshow with 4.87m (20%) from 8pm.

However, series five of detective drama Lewis once more owned primetime, pulling in 6.24m (25.4%) on ITV1 between 8pm and 10pm, up 650k week-on-week. A further 245k (1.1%) watched the show on ITV1+1.

Countryfile brought in 5.7m (28.4%) on BBC One in the 7pm hour, beating The Cube's 3.53m (17.6%) on ITV1 and 113k (0.5%) on timeshift.

On BBC Two, London Marathon 2011 Highlights ran away with 1.22m (7.4%) in the 6pm hour, before a repeat of Alex Higgins: The People's Champion enchanted 890k (4.4%).

The Secrets Of Scott's Hut, presented by Ben Fogle, captivated 1.85m (7.5%) on BBC Two between 8pm and 9.30pm. It was followed by Alaska: The Arctic Man-Ski & Sno-Go Classic with 1.18m (4.8%) and Match Of The Day 2 with 2.02m (10.9%).

Channel 4's Come Dine With Me served up 1.45m (7.1%) in the 7pm hour and 390k (1.6%) on +1. Country House Rescue took 1.65m (6.7%) from 9pm and 293k (1.6%) an hour later. A screening of East Is East fetched 1.25m (8.8%) from 10pm and 166k (2.2%) on timeshift.

Showings of Big Daddy and Spider-Man roused 1.24m (7.1%) and 2.06m (8.6%) on Channel 5 between 6pm and 10pm. The Walking Dead, the Andrew Lincoln-starring zombie drama, scared up 1.53m (8.4%) between 10pm and 11.30pm.

Overall, ITV1 narrowly won primetime with 20.1% (+1: 0.8%) against BBC One's 19.9%. Channel 5 came in third with 8.4%, followed by Channel 4 with 7.3% (+1: 1.4%) and BBC Two with 7%.

Elsewhere, The Only Way Is Essex dazzled 896k (4.7%) on ITV2 from 10pm and 152k (1.5%) on timeshift.
