Doctor Who stars have welcomed the shows' return and revealed how much they enjoyed filming.

David Tennant, who plays the Doctor, said great scripts had made making the series an enjoyable experience. "I have had the time of my life, it's been great," he commented. "There's no other job like it really. I mean you know, I get my own Tardis!

"The day-to-day excitement is that the scripts are so good - they are such finely crafted stories. That is what makes nine months fly by."

The actor added that he did have concerns about taking the role on from Christopher Eccleston. He said: "It is very daunting because it had been a huge hit and everyone, quite rightly thought Christopher was fantastic."

Co-star Billie Piper has also been having a great time, she said.
The actress said it was crucial that her and Tennant got on. "We all get along on the show and we need to really, because it's long months and it's quite intense," she explained. "We're shooting 13-hour days, so you're thrown together all the time.

"I feel like I've made a friend for life," she said of the actor. "I see you more than I see my family or my boyfriend." Apparently Piper's mother is equally pleased about her new connection. "My mum's on the phone all the time," joked the actredd. "That definitely started when she saw him in Casanova last year. Now she's just like, 'Are you sat next to him right now?'"

During the new series – which began yesterday (Saturday) on BBC One - fans will be able to download weekly mini preview episodes of the show, known as Tardisodes.
