Lee Mack's sitcom Not Going Out has been commissioned for two more series by BBC One.

The show, which was initially dropped by the BBC after its third run, has become a consistent ratings success for the broadcaster, picking up nearly five million viewers earlier this year.

Online fan petitions helped save the Avalon Television show from the axe in 2009. BBC One controller Danny Cohen and comedy commissioner Cheryl Taylor have now granted the programme, which also stars Sally Bretton and Tim Vine, a fifth and sixth series.

Writer and star Mack joked: "It's great news. I can finally get that extension finished."

"I am delighted that Not Going Out will be returning to BBC One and would like to thank the BBC for their support of the show," added Avalon's Jon Thoday.
