Matt Groening hoped for 'Extras' role

The Simpsons creator, who invited Gervais to write and star in an episode of the hit cartoon, is apparently a big fan of the BBC comedy.
"He didn't ask me," Groening told WENN. "It would have been perfect for me because I worked as an extra when I first moved to Los Angeles in 1978."
