'Grandstand' axed after 48 years

The BBC has decided to scrap long-running sports show Grandstand after 48 years.
An announcement regarding a major shakeup to the presentation of all sports coverage on the BBC is expected to be made by director general Mark Thompson tomorrow (Tuesday) afternoon, as part of the unveiling of the corporation-wide "Creative Futures" review.
However, it is expected that sports coverage will continue to be aired on BBC One on Saturday afternoons. Despite its long history as the BBC's flagship sports programme, the Grandstand brand had already started to disappear from certain sporting events and segments such as Football Focus. It is expected that sporting events will be covered within dedicated programmes under the BBC Sport banner.
