Gervais wins highest 'Simpsons' audience
Published Tuesday, Apr 25 2006, 21:05 BST | By Dave West
The episode of The Simpsons written by Ricky Gervais won the show its best ever audience on Sky One.
With 2.18 million viewers, last night's episode also became the channel's second most watched show ever. A Friends instalment in 2000 won a 2.8 million audience. Regular editions of the cartoon are usually watched by around one million.
Simpsons creator – and fan of The Office - Matt Groening asked Gervais to be the first ever British writer of an episode. The comedian also voiced the part of an English office manager for the show. The character, named Charles, has to live with Marge for a wife swap for a reality TV show.
