BAFTA Television Awards dazzles 5.4m

The British Academy Television Awards scooped almost 5.4m on Sunday evening, while ITV1's Vera also proved popular, according to the latest audience data.

Coverage of the 2011 Phillips TV BAFTAs, featuring wins for The Only Way Is Essex, EastEnders and Sherlock, averaged 5.36m (22%) for BBC One between 8pm and 10pm, peaking at 5.68m (23%) for the final 15 minutes.

In the same timeslot, detective drama Vera entertained 5.4m (22.1%) on ITV1 and 128k (0.6%) on +1. The Life and Loss of Karen Woo mustered 1.04m (6.5%) on ITV1 from 10.15pm.

Earlier, RHS Chelsea Flower Show appealed to 3.77m (19.6%) on BBC One from 6.15pm. Countryfile grabbed 6.11m (28.2%) in the 7pm hour, beating The Cube's 3.97m (18.3%) on ITV1 and 115k (0.5%) on timeshift. Match of the Day, featuring highlights of the final day of the Premier League season, had 4.08m (30.4%) on BBC One from 10.30pm.

On BBC Two, a repeat of Top Gear revved up 1.41m (6.5%) in the 7pm hour, before Britain's Secret Seas sailed away with 1.78m (7.4%) from 8pm. Louis Theroux: Miami Mega Jail locked up 2.96m (11.9%) in the 9pm hour. A screening of Zodiak pulled in 1.15m (8.7%) from 10pm.

Channel 4's Come Dine With Me served up 1.76m (8.1%) in the 7pm hour and 432k (1.8%) on +1. The Hotel continued with 1.78m (7.5%) from 8pm and 216k (0.9%) on +1. A showing of Orphan took 1.5m (7.2%) from 9pm and 307k (2.2%) on timeshift.

Screenings of Fun with Dick and Jane, Miss Congeniality and Proof of life roused 667k (3.3%), 1.17m (4.8%) and 414k (3.6%) on Channel 5 from 6pm.

BBC One owned primetime with 25.2% against ITV1's 18.1% (+1: 0.5%). BBC Two came in third with 8.5%, followed by Channel 4 with 7.3% (+1: 1.2%) and Channel 5 with 4.1%.

Elsewhere, new episodes of US animated comedy Family Guy pulled in 1.16m (5.4%) and 1.42m (7.7%) on BBC Three from 10pm. Coverage of 'Survival Sunday' in the Premier League mustered 1.43m (9%) on Sky Sports 1 between 3pm and 7pm.
