ITV to be renamed ITV 1

Published Monday, Jul 2 2001, 14:37 BST | By Neil Wilkes
After 46 years as ITV, the network is to be renamed ITV 1 as part of an attempt to save digital broadcaster ONdigital.

The name change was announced by ITV CEO Stuart Prebble this morning, who said the decision was made to reflect the fact that ITV is now "a family of channels".

ONdigital will be formally renamed ITV Digital on July 11th, whilst internet service ONnet will be rebranded 'ITV Active'.

"The ITV brand already stands for unmissable television that connects the majority of people in this country, said Prebble.

"We are extending ITV's market leading values across a family of channels, a pay-TV platform and interactive and online services, creating a powerful new consumer proposition for the digital age."
