The firing of the latest candidate after the rubbish collection challenge was seen by 7.49m (30.3%) on BBC One in the 9pm hour, up 1.2m week-on-week. Spinoff show The Apprentice: You're Fired! appealed to 2.99m (14.7%) on BBC Two from 10pm.
Anthony Horowitz's drama Injustice slumped to 3.76m (15.2%) on ITV1 in the 9pm hour, down 520k on the previous night's episode. A further 252k (1.4%) watched the show on ITV1+1.
Waterloo Road took 5.26m (25.4%) on BBC One from 7.30pm, while Poms In Paradise mustered 3.3m (16.5%) on ITV1. You've Been Famed and Famous entertained 2.97m (13.8%) in the 8pm hour.
New comedy In With The Flynns, starring Will Mellor and Warren Clarke, premiered with 4.09m (18.9%) on BBC One from 8.30pm. Documentary series Mugged shocked 1.13m (9.1%) on ITV1 from 10.45pm.
On BBC Two, Escape to the Country mustered 1.08m (5.6%) between 7pm and 7.30pm. Springwatch captivated 2.69m (13%) from 7.30pm, while 104k (0.5%) watched on the BBC HD channel. Springwatch Unsprung grabbed 2.52m (11.7%) from 8.30pm and Wonderland entertained 930k (3.8%) in the 9pm hour.
Channel 4's Embarrassing Bodies educated 1.84m (8.6%) in the 8pm hour and 278k (1.1%) on +1. 24 Hours in A&A appealed to 2.07m (8.4%) from 9pm and 518k (2.9%) on +1. Desperate Housewives grabbed 900k (5%) from 10pm and 122k (1.2%) an hour later.
Pawn Stars entertained 549k (2.7%) on Channel 5 from 7.30pm, before Giant Animal Moves was seen by 611k (2.9%) in the 8pm hour. NCIS and Law & Order: Criminal Intent mustered 1.89m (7.6%) and 1.17m (6.4%) respectively from 9pm.
Overall, BBC One owned primetime with 24% against ITV1's 16.2% (+1: 0.6%). BBC Two came in third with 8.9%, followed by Channel 4 with 6.5% (+1: 1.3%) and Channel 5 with 4.8%.
Elsewhere, highlights of the Isle of Man TT 2011 averaged 652k (2.9%) for ITV4 in the 9pm hour, while Hidcote: A Garden For All Seasons enchanted 538k (2.2%) on BBC Four.
