BBC Two's The Rob Brydon Show premiered with 1.61m (8.3%) between 10pm and 10.30pm, clashing with Alan Carr: Chatty Man which averaged 1.4m (7%) between 9.30pm and 10.30pm (+1: 229k).
BBC One's My Family rallied to 3.99m (19.1%) at 9pm, after which another repeat of Miranda fetched 3.75m (18%).
The One Show also improved to 3.09m (16.5%) at 7pm, before 2.66m (13.4%) chose The Good Cook at 7.30pm and A Question of Sport quizzed 2.62m (11.8%) at 8.30pm.
Over on BBC Two, coverage of the RHS Flower Show interested 1.81m (8.5%) at 8pm, then Gardeners' World had 2.02m (9.1%). Viewers stuck to the channel for The Golden Age of Canals, which took 2.06m (9.9%).
For ITV1, Love Your Garden mustered 2.83m (13.3%) at 8pm (+1: 126k), and a rerun of Phil Collins: One Night Only dazzled 2.49m (11.9%) from 9pm (+1: 143k).
Channel 4's Come Dine with Me entertained 1.25m (5.8%) in the 8pm hour (+1: 408k), then 8 Out of 10 Cats amused 1.51m (7.2%) and 251k on timeshift.
Elsewhere, Danger: Daggers at Work steadied with 947k (4.3%) for Channel 5 at 8pm, Castle gripped 1.05m (5%) at 9pm, and The Mentalist logged 708k (3.9%) at 10pm.
Overall, ITV1 claimed primetime with 19.8% (+1: 0.6%), ahead of BBC One's 19.4%, BBC Two's 8.2%, Channel 4's 5.6% (+1: 1.2%), and Channel 5's 4.6%.
