The Welsh rugby player agreed to star in Channel 5's adaptation of the US dating show in order to move on from his "horrendous" split with Charlotte Church back in May 2010.
"Going through a break-up is horrendous," Henson told the Daily Mail. "I've been single for 16 months now and I'd love to find a girlfriend. But it's hard because I'm reserved and not very trusting.
"'I want to find a girl who's honest. There has to be that spark, of course - that connection. But mostly it's about finding someone who's got a kind heart.
"I don't really do the dating scene. I'm wearing my heart on my sleeve. If the girl I choose is only here to further her career, I'll be gutted."
However, Henson stated that his main motivation for appearing on The Bachelor was to make sure that his children with Church, Ruby, three, and 2-year-old Dexter, learn the value of love.
"I went that extra mile to try to stay [with Charlotte] because of them, but it didn't work," he said. "It would be brilliant if Ruby and Dexter could be brought up in an environment where a couple love each other and treat one another with dignity and respect.
"I'm not looking for a mother for Ruby and Dexter because they already have a mother. I'd just like them to grow up knowing what to look for in a caring man and seeing how a woman should be treated. Hopefully, I can find that."
Church was recently said to be "upset and hurt" by Henson's participation in The Bachelor.
