The Truth About Cheryl Cole, charting the star's often turbulent rise from a housing estate in Newcastle to a glamorous life in Los Angeles, was watched by 1.23m (5%) on Channel 5 in the 9pm hour.
Also in the 9pm slot, a new episode of New Tricks, titled 'Only The Brave', slipped to 8.17m (33.3%) on BBC One, down 560k week-on-week. However, the show was still too strong for Jason Manford's Show Me The Funny, which amused 1.63m (6.7%) on ITV1 and 123k (0.7%) on +1, as two aspiring comics were eliminated ahead of next week's live final.
Bang Goes The Theory interested 2.69m (13.3%) on BBC One from 7.30pm and Countrywise Kitchen served up 2.81m (12.3%) on ITV1 from 8pm. Fake Britain fetched 3.38m (14.2%) on BBC One from 8.30pm, and A Question Sport had 2.53m (17.7%) from 10.45pm. A double bill of The Celebrity Apprentice USA grabbed 970k (9.9%) and 680k (11.2%) from 11.15pm.
Wonderstuff and Victorian Pharmacy scooped 940k (4.9%) and 950k (4.7%) respectively on BBC Two in the 7pm hour. University Challenge and Antiques Master captivated 2.67m (11.6%) and 1.51m (6.4%) in the 8pm hour. Horizon enthralled 1.37m (5.6%) from 9pm and Shooting Stars amused 1.22m (6.1%) from 10pm.
The Pet Detectives detained 820k (3.5%) on Channel 4 in the 8pm hour and 137k (0.6%) on +1, before Jamie Cooks Summer served up 1.38m (5.6%) from 9pm and 192k (1.1%) an hour later. A screening of Snakes on a Plane delighted 820k (6%) from 10pm and 161k (2.2%) on timeshift.
Highlights coverage of England's dramatic win in the cricket against India was enjoyed by 1.16m (5.9%) on Channel 5 in the 7pm hour. Police Interceptors arrested 1.1m (4.7%) from 8pm. Celebrity Big Brother fetched 2.28m (12.3%) from 10pm, before Celebrity Big Brother's Bit On The Side entertained 696k (7%) from 11pm.
Overall, BBC One led primetime with 24.5% against ITV1's 17.8% (+1: 0.4%). Channel 5 scooped third place with 6.6%, followed by BBC Two's 6.3% and Channel 4's 4.2% (+1: 0.6%).
Elsewhere, Hell's Kitchen USA continued with 429k (1.7%) on ITV2 from 10pm and 138k (0.8%) on +1. The Victoria Coren-hosted show Only Connect quizzed 599k (2.5%) on BBC Four from 8.30pm.
On BBC Three, Cherry's Body Dilemmas entertained 421k (2.7%) in the 9pm hour and Three @ The Fringe amused 317k (2%) from 10.30pm.
Coverage of Manchester United's win against Tottenham Hotspur was watched by 1.59m (7.2%) on Sky Sports 1 between 7pm and 10.30pm.
