Planet Dinosaur out-roared by live football

Planet Dinosaur, a new programme using the latest technology to bring recent dinosaur discoveries to life, captivated 3.84m (16%) on BBC One from 8.30pm. Afterwards, Alan Carr's turn on Who Do You Think You Are? mustered 4.81m (20%).
However, both shows were hit by the tough competition of coverage of Manchester United's draw against Benfica, which had 5.15m (22.2%) on ITV1 between 7.30pm and 10pm.
Escape to the Country appealed to 1.55m (7.7%) on BBC Two in the 7pm hour, before Natural World revved up 1.52m (6.4%) from 8pm. Horizon captivated 880k (3.7%) from 9pm and Have I Got Old News For You had 1.1m (5.8%) from 10pm.
Channel 4's Location, Location, Location located 2.31m (9.8%) in the 8pm hour and 222k (0.9%) on +1. The 11th series of Grand Designs launched with a healthy 2.75m (11.4%) and 398k (2.4%) on timeshift. Paralympics show Best of British had 450k (2.7%) from 10pm
Highland Emergency took 867k (4.2%) on Channel 5 from 7.30pm, before Emergency Bikers fetched 1.38m (5.8%) in the 8pm slot. Law & Order: Criminal Intent had 1.07m (4.5%) from 9pm.
Big Brother continued on Channel 5 with 1.43m (8.6%) in the 10pm hour, and Big Brother's Bit On The Side entertained 146k (1.7%) on 5* from 11pm.
Overall, ITV1 edged primetime with 20.5% (+1: 0.3%) against BBC One's 20%. Channel 4 came in third with 7.4% (+1: 0.9%), followed by BBC Two with 5.7% and Channel 5's with 5.1%.
Elsewhere, The Glee Project entertained 336k (1.4%) on Sky1 in the 8pm hour, and Mount Pleasant amused 354k (1.5%) from 9pm.
Benidorm pulled in 695k (2.9%) on ITV2 from 9pm and 108k (0.6%) on +1. Afterwards, Ghosthunting with The Only Way Is Essex spooked 444k (3.1%).
