Ioan Gruffudd has revealed that he is keen to film more Hornblower television movies.

The Welsh actor played the role of Horatio Hornblower in eight films between 1998 and 2003.

"We have only scratched the surface of what we could do," he told Entertainment Weekly.

"I began doing those films when I was 23, and I think it would be amazing for one actor to visit the same part over the course of his career, playing the character's whole span of life."

Gruffudd, who currently stars opposite Sarah Michelle Gellar in The CW's Ringer, added that he is keen to dramatise more of C.S. Forester's Hornblower novels if his new show is a hit.

"If Ringer is a success, and my star continues to rise, I might be in a position to put [more Hornblower films] together," he said. "I would really love to do it."

The final Hornblower film, Duty - also starring Robert Lindsay and Paul McGann - aired on January 6, 2003.
