News provider ITN is to launch a 24-hour news channel in Russia, it has been revealed.
Vladmir Putin announced the move last week, making the channel the only independent station to broadcast in the country.
Stuart Purvis, ITN CEO, said: "This is very significant in terms of freedom of information. We are the first ever international organisation to be allowed to transmit to every Russian home."
The channel will be a Russian version of Euronews, and will launch via terrestrial broadcaster RTR in September.
Putin added: "This is an important step toward integrating Russia with the European and international information space."
