Big name lineup for MTV20 concert

MTV announced today that P. Diddy, Kid Rock, Salt 'N Pepa, Ja-Rule, Fred Durst, Naughty By Nature, Rob Halford, and Tommy Lee have been added to the bill for the August 1st 20th birthday bash MTV20: Live and Almost Legal.

Mariah Carey will headline the live party that will also include performances by a reunited TLC, Jane's Addiction, Billy Idol, Method Man, Mary J. Blige, SUM-41, RUN-DMC, Busta Rhymes, and The Neptunes, plus performances from some of the hottest tours of the summer including Janet Jackson, Bon Jovi, Nelly, Depeche Mode, Blink-182, Aerosmith, and Sugar Ray.

At 12.01am on August 1st 1981 MTV started broadcasting for the first time, and the music and TV industries were changed forever. Twenty years on, top music stars are coming together to express their thanks to MTV for the support they have been given throughout their illustrious careers.

The evening's festivities will include special appearances by stars from the first 20 years of MTV including the US channel's five original MTV VJs. The party will also feature the return of Beavis & Butthead, and appearances by Aaliyah, Boy George, Jon Stewart, Macy Gray, Rebecca Romijn-Stamos, Dee Snider, Huey Lewis, Joan Jett, Papa Roach, Ric Ocasek, Rob Zombie, Carmen Electra, Doctor Dre, Ed Lover, Jenny McCarthy, Tyrese, and many more.

MTV20: Live and Almost Legal will take place on MTV's 20th birthday on August 1st 2001 live from New York's Hammerstein Ballroom, and promises to be one of the most glittering, unmissable events of the year. The three-hour music extravaganza can be seen live and as it happens on MTV UK & Ireland at 1am in the early hours of the morning of Thursday 2nd August, and will be repeated at 9pm on Saturday 4th August.

Landmark MTV20 programming will include; MTV'S Top 100 of All Time, the most memorable, genre-busting videos that helped define a music generation; MTV20: MTV's 20 Most Outrageous Moments, two hours of the most unforgettable moments on MTV, including the presidential moment that made Bill Clinton blush, and the naked pop star riding his motorcycle through New York's Times Square; and MTV20: Everybody Talk About Pop Music, an hour long documentary featuring prominent artists and industry figures looking back at themes, events, the emergence of new music genres and seminal moments in the last two decades of pop music.
