Fourth EastEnders to air 8pm Fridays

By
The fourth weekly episode of EastEnders will air Fridays at 8pm, beginning August 10, it has been confirmed.

The first Friday episode will go head-to-head with ITV's Coronation Street, which is being postponed to 8pm due to an hour-long Emmerdale special.

The evening will also feature an hour-long EastEnders: It's Your Party special hosted by Jonathan Ross at 7pm, and an Alistair McGowan's Impressions special at 20.30.

Lorraine Heggessey, BBC1 controller, said: "The addition of this episode to the schedule will provide a strong launchpad for many of the other innovative and exciting projects currently in production as a result of the increased funding that BBC1 has received."

David Liddiment, ITV's Director of Programmes, responded: "I can't understand why the publicly funded BBC would want to reduce viewer choice. Many people enjoy both EastEnders and Coronation Street and the BBC's decision to go head to head in this way breaks every convention."
