Pan Am, starring Christina Ricci, Margot Robbie and Kelli Garner as stewardesses working for the airline during the 1960s, premiered on BBC Two with 1.73m (6.6%) from 9pm and 134k (0.8%) on BBC HD. A second episode dipped to 1.46m (7%) from 9.45pm.
Meanwhile, the latest part of the David Attenborough-presented Frozen Planet attracted 5.77m (22.3%) to BBC One in the 9pm hour, down 1.39m viewers on last week's episode.
The programme was hit by the popularity of I'm a Celebrity, which welcomed 8.21m (32.2%) to ITV1 between 8.30pm and 10pm, along with 321k (1.6%) on +1. Spinoff show I'm a Celebrity...Get Me Out of Here Now! attracted 920k (5.3%) on ITV2.
ITV1's New You've Been Framed delighted 4.23m (18.7%) from 7.30pm and 124k (0.5%) on +1, while The Impressions Show amused 2.58m (10.5%) on BBC One from 8.30pm. Film 2011 with Claudia Winkleman mustered 720k (8.4%) from 11.15pm.
Great British Food Revival appealed to 1.67m (7.5%) on BBC Two in the 7pm hour, before MasterChef: The Professionals fetched 3.03m (12.7%) from 8pm and 117k (0.5%) in HD.
Kirstie's Homemade Britain delighted 1.65m (7%) on Channel 4 in the 8pm hour and 125k (0.7%) on +1. Grand Designs constructed 1.75m (6.7%) and 256k (1.5%) on timeshift. Fresh Meat concluded with 900k (5.1%) from 10pm and 141k (1.5%) an hour later.
Highland Emergency took 716k (3.2%) on Channel 5 from 7.30pm, before Dangerous Drivers' School fetched 864k (3.7%) in the 8pm slot. Big Brother had 278k (1.1%) in the 9pm hour, and Paul Merton's Adventures entertained 630k (3.6%) from 10pm.
Overall, ITV1 won primetime with 26.7% (+1: 0.8%) against BBC One's 18.8%. BBC Two came in third with 8.4%, followed by Channel 4 with 5.6% (+1: 0.8%) and Channel 5's low 2.4%.
