Champions League football draws 5.4m on ITV1

Wednesday evening's live Champions League football match between Basel and Manchester United was caught by 5.38m (22.3%) from 7.30pm, according to overnight figures.

The highlights show UEFA Champions League: Extra Time ended up with 984k (7.8%) from 10.35pm.

BBC One won the night overall, significantly helped by Frozen Planet from 9pm with 6.83m (27.4%). That's Britain! (4.07m/17.9%) and The Impressions Show (3.39m/13.6%) preceded the documentary, while Who Do You Think You Are? USA was watched by 1.51 (11.5%) from 10.45pm.

BBC Two's The Big Bread Experiment baked up an audience of 1.62m (7.4%), followed by MasterChef: The Professionals (2.85m/11.7%) and Storyville (833k/3.7%).

Kirstie's Handmade Christmas took 1.97m (8.1%) in the 8pm hour for Channel 4 (+1: 222k/0.9%). Phil's Empty Homes Giveaway won 1.77m (7.1%) from 9pm (+1: 203k/1.1%) and The Million Pound Drop earned 1.43m (9.4%) from 10pm.

Channel 5's Highland Emergency was seen by 835k (3.9%) from 7.30pm, with Ultimate Emergency Bikers (933k/3.8%) following. Movie Erin Brockovich attracted 1m (5.4%) from 9pm.

BBC One finished Wednesday primetime with a share of 21.2%, just beating ITV1's 20.9% (+1: 0.3%). BBC Two took 6.9%, Channel 4 grabbed 6.6% (+1: 0.9%) and Channel 5 had 3.8%.

Meanwhile, Don't Tell the Bride from 8pm and Meet the Fockers from 10pm performed well for BBC Three, ending up with 593k (3.43%) and 1.1m (7.7%) respectively.
