Ruby Wax has revealed that the team behind Absolutely Fabulous considered making a musical version of the show.

Wax, who works as a script editor on the comedy, explained that they eventually decided the plan would not be successful.

"It wouldn't work as a musical," she told The Daily Telegraph.

"I don't think things ever sound better when they're musicals as nobody can write good music nowadays, apart from Andrew Lloyd Webber, of course."

Two new episodes of Absolutely Fabulous aired over the festive period, while a third is due to be broadcast around the time of the Olympics this summer.

Meanwhile, star Jennifer Saunders has confirmed that she is "definitely going to do" an Absolutely Fabulous movie.
