'Shooting Stars': Sky snubs chance to save quiz show

Sky has reportedly turned down the chance to revive axed BBC quiz show Shooting Stars.

The corporation confirmed in November that the Vic Reeves and Bob Mortimer programme would not be renewed for a ninth series after a steady ratings decline in recent years.

Sky was among the rival broadcasters tipped to save the format, though bosses have now allegedly deemed the show as having little appeal to its audience.

"It's a great show and Vic and Bob are easily two of Britain's biggest comedy talents," a source told The Sun. "But it has never had a huge appeal to core Sky1 viewers."

A spokesperson for the channel concurred: "We have no plans to commission Shooting Stars."

The programme was named 'Best Comedy Panel Show' at the 2011 British Comedy Awards just one month after its axing.

Several attendees at the ceremony took the opportunity to mourn the loss of Shooting Stars, with comedian Jack Whitehall telling Digital Spy that he was "really upset" and "annoyed" with the BBC's decision.

Dan Skinner - who won the 'Best Comedy Breakthrough Artist Award' at the event - has gone on to land a Channel 4 show as his Shooting Stars alter ego Angelos Epithemiou.
