'Dancing on Ice' opens to 8.7m on ITV1

Dancing on Ice guided ITV1 to primetime victory with a strong series launch last night, according to overnight data.

The figure-skating competition attracted 8.65m (32.5%) from 6.30pm, with a further 290k (1%) on +1. The results show was seen by 6.51m (23.9%) from 9.30pm and 204k (1.3%) on +1.

Wild at Heart aired in between, averaging 7.18m (25.2%) with 240k (1%) on +1, while That Sunday Night Show began its new series with 2.22m (10.8%) and an additional 115k (1.1%) on +1.

Sherlock impressed with 8.16m (29%) from 8.30pm, preceded by Antiques Roadshow with 6.26m (22.9%) from 7.30pm. The One Lenny Henry amused 1.6m (9.9%) from 10.25pm.

Elsewhere, Celebrity Big Brother drew 2.14m (11.5%) on Channel 5 in the 10pm hour.

A screening of (500) Days of Summer starring Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Zooey Deschanel grabbed 690k (2.9%) on Channel 4 (+1: 137k/0.9%) from 9pm. The Hotel had 1.29m (4.5%) in the 8pm hour (+1: 292k/1.1%).

BBC Two's lineup consisted of Top Gear (1.51m/5.7%), Great Barrier Reef (2.54m/8.9%) and To Boldly Go (1.47m/5.3%) before the channel showed Adventureland, which was watched by 860k (5.7%) from 10pm.

ITV1 led primetime with 25.6% (+1: 1%). BBC One finished with 24.4% ahead of BBC Two's 6.4%, Channel 5's 5% and Channel 4's 3.5% (+1: 0.9%).

Over on Sky1, Got to Dance entertained 644k (2.4%) from 7pm, while Desperate Housewives was caught by 561k (3%) on E4 in the 10pm hour.
