Dana Delany's 'Body of Proof' begins with 1.7m on Channel 5

New medical drama series Body of Proof began with strong numbers on Channel 5 last night, according to overnight data.

Starring Desperate Housewives star Dana Delany, the US import earned 1.73m (7.1%) from 9pm.

The latest instalment of Celebrity Big Brother followed with 2.09m (11.4%), while Celebrity Wedding Planner and Cowboy Builders aired earlier with 283k (1.3%) and 1.45m (6.2%) respectively.

Over on BBC One, Holby City treated 5.35m (22.9%) from 8pm. DIY SOS: The Big Build had 4.68m (19.2%) afterwards.

ITV1 had a quiet night by its standards. River Monster took 2.8m (12.4%) from 7.30pm (+1: 190k/0.8%), The Exit List averaged 2.37m (10.2%) and The Biggest Loser ended up with 2.67m (11%) from 9pm (+1: 175k/1%).

BBC Two showed Hairy Bikers: Best of British (1.88m/8.5%), The Great Sport Relief Bake Off (3.27m/14%), The Mystery of Edwin Drood (2.88m/11.9%) and Have I Got News for You (1.47m/7.2%).

On Channel 4, The Fat Fighters averaged 883k (3.8%) from 8pm. Inside Nature attracted 1.41 (5.8%) in the 9pm hour (+1: 207k/1.1%), while Shameless got 1.58m (9%) from 10pm (+1: 221k/2.3%).

Overall, BBC One convincingly won with 23.1% over ITV1's 12.8% (+1: 0.6%). BBC Two finished with 10.4%, Channel 5 had 6.2% and Channel 4 took 5.2% (+1: 0.7%).

Meanwhile, Don't Tell the Bride drew 584k (2.5%) on E4 from 8pm.
