In the same timeslot, ITV1 showed The Unforgettable and Midsomer Murders, which attracted 3.89m (17.6%) and 5.12m (20.2%) respectively. The latter had an additional 240k (1.1%) on +1.
BBC Two ended up in third place for the night with a lineup of Hairy Bikers' Best of British (2.11m/9.6%), The Great Sport Relief Bake Off (2.53m/10.2%), The Mystery of Edwin Drood (1.67m/6.5%) and Mock the Week (1.35m/7%).
Channel 4's How to Cook Like Heston served 1.18m (4.8%) from 8pm (+1: 227k/0.9%), while The Fabulous Baker Brothers followed with 1.11m/4.4% (+1: 183k/0.7%). One Born Every Minute took 2.6m (10.1%) in the 9pm hour with an impressive 531k (3.1%) on +1 and How to Be a Good Mother with Sharon Horgan had 1.23m/7.2% (+1: 199k/2.2%).
Celebrity Big Brother won 2.12m (8.3%) from 9pm on Channel 5. Elsewhere, Cowboy Builders took 766k (3.5%) from 7pm, Benidorm ER had 1.31m (5.3%) from 8pm and Kym Marsh: Teen Mums and Me grabbed 795k (4.7%) in the 10pm hour.
Overall, BBC One convincingly won with 25.3%. ITV1 finished with 19.2% (+1: 0.7%) ahead of BBC Two's 8.2%, Channel 4's 6.4% (+1: 1.1%) and Channel 5's 5.6%.
BBC Three's Eagle Eye topped the multichannel shows with an average of 645k (4.6%) tuning in from 10pm.
