Johnny Vaughan has described how he sparked a major alert after digging up an unexploded bomb.

The presenter, who left Capital FM last year, was filming the second series of archaeology show Mud Men in Poland when the incident occurred.

"You know you've found something good when they get a bomb disposal expert," he told The Sun.

"Suddenly, everyone was told to stand back. It was brilliant."

The bomb was later found to be a Second World War device and was made safe after the area had been cleared.

Police were also called when Vaughan found a gun while filming on London's Isle of Dogs.

"I found a 1911 Mauser German gun in the mud, and river police took it to be decommissioned," he explained.

Mud Men, which was handed a second series in June last year, returns to the History channel on January 26.
