Shooting Stars will not be revived on another channel, Vic Reeves and Bob Mortimer have said.

Fans were disappointed when BBC Two confirmed that it was dropping the comedy show in November and later reports suggested that another broadcaster could pick up the format, though Sky decided against it.

Reeves and Mortimer have now told The Sun that they have chosen to draw a line under the series and focus on new programmes.

"We were obviously surprised when the BBC cancelled Shooting Stars," they said. "When we also won two prizes at the British Comedy Awards it felt right to leave the series on the highest note possible."

However, the double act told fans that they can "rest assured something else is coming round the corner and up the road from Vic and Bob".

They said: "We're already working on several brand new projects, including a panel show the like of which has never been seen or attempted before."

Shooting Stars character Angelos Epithemiou, played by Dan Renton Skinner, has already landed a programme on Channel 4.
