MacRae, who created and wrote the show, announced the news on his Twitter page.
He began by hinting: "So, does anyone fancy a new series of Threesome...?"
MacRae then confirmed the news, saying: "I'm thrilled to announce a brand shiny new series of #comedy3some will be on your screens later this year! Alice, Mitch, Richie AND Lily!"
However, MacRae now appears to have deleted the messages.
The first series of Threesome, which starred Amy Huberman, Stephen Wight and Emun Elliott, focused on a couple and their gay best friend who agreed to raise a baby together after a drug-fuelled threesome.
Adam Garcia and Pauline McLynn also had roles in the first series of the show.
