'Whitechapel' beaten by Queen Diamond Jubilee programme

Whitechapel lost out to a new series on the Queen's Diamond Jubilee last night, the latest overnight data has revealed.
The Rupert Penry-Jones copycat murder drama's second instalment logged 5.63m (21.2%) in the 9pm hour, adding a further 229k (1.3%) on ITV1 +1.


However, BBC One's Andrew Marr-fronted The Diamond Queen dazzled 6.2m (23.4%) for its opening edition.
Cornwall with Caroline Quentin continued to impress with 4.32m (16.4%) for ITV1 at 8pm (+1: 122k/0.5%) versus EastEnders, while Panorama grabbed 2.88m (10.9%) for BBC One against Corrie.

On BBC Two, University Challenge stayed solid with 2.93m (11.1%) and An Island Parish interested 2.28m (8.7%) in the 8pm hour, then the audience dropped for 9pm's Protecting Our Children which took 1.54m (5.8%).
Channel 4's Coppers arrested 1.62m (6.1%) at 9pm (+1: 417k/2.3%), prior to which 1.29m (4.9%) watched Superscrimpers: Waste Not, Want Not at 8pm (+1: 276k/1%). Party Paramedics entertained 1.26m (7%) from 10pm (+1: 263k/2.8%).
Meanwhile, Channel 5 had 1.11m (4.2%) for Police Interceptors at 8pm, and 1.04m (3.9%) for Royal Marines: Mission Afghanistan an hour later.
Overall, ITV1 stayed atop primetime with 24.3% (+1: 0.6%), despite BBC One's much-improved share of 22%. Far out in third, BBC Two claimed 6.5%, ahead of Channel 4's 5.1%, and Channel 5's 3.4%.
Elsewhere, Skins climbed to 446k (2.5%) for E4 from 10pm, while Monday Night Football on Sky Sports 1 scored 1.59m (6.4%).
