Anneka Rice is in talks with the BBC about making her TV comeback after 17 years.

The 53-year-old, who found fame with the launch of Treasure Hunt in 1983 and later fronted Challenge Anneka, is reportedly being considered to host a primetime lifestyle magazine programme and an arts show.

BBC One controller Danny Cohen told The Mirror: "I've always been a fan of Anneka's work and I'm looking forward to developing different projects with her over the forthcoming months."

Rice has appeared on TV sporadically since wrapping Challenge Anneka in 1995, fronting several special editions of the show up until 2007 and competing on the third series of ITV cooking contest Hell's Kitchen.

"She was a star on the BBC when Challenge Anneka was on TV and was a very recognisable face on screen," a source commented. "Since then her TV work has dried up a lot but this is a big chance for her to become a star again.

"The BBC has also been hit with criticism of ageism recently, so Anneka is part of us redressing the balance and getting more older women on screen.

"They have been talking with Anneka for some time now and she will be back on screen before the end of the year."
