Channel 4's 'Dispatches' defeats Viagogo injunction attempt

Channel 4 show Dispatches has defeated an attempt by ticket reselling website Viagogo to get a High Court injunction against it.

The current affairs programme - which went undercover to investigate claims that major live event promoters were ripping off fans by allowing thousands of tickets to be sold through their website above face value - now has the right to reveal its findings on TV.

Viagogo applied for an injunction against Dispatches on the grounds of 'breach of confidence', but it was dismissed in court yesterday (February 22).

Dispatches will now allege in a special episode to be aired tonight that most of Viagogo's tickets to concerts by artists such as Rihanna, Westlife and Coldplay are not from individual fans, but professional ticket resellers or tickets that were allocated to the promoters themselves.

A Channel 4 spokesperson said in an official statement published on the broadcaster's website: "We are pleased that we can now broadcast in full a programme of important public interest.

"It is disappointing that having provided Viagogo with a fair opportunity to respond to the allegations uncovered by our investigation several weeks ago, they chose instead to seek an injunction which would have effectively stopped the broadcast of our programme."

The Dispatches episode looking at Viagogo's practices airs tonight (Thursday February 23) at 9pm on Channel 4.
