'MasterChef' grabs nearly 4.8m on BBC One

The latest instalment of MasterChef averaged nearly 4.8m on BBC One last night, according to overnight data.

The cooking gameshow served 4.76m (20%) in the 9pm hour, comfortably beating ITV1's Champions League football coverage which took 2.46m (10.9%).

Channel 4's One Born Every Minute attracted 3.26m (13.7%) from 9pm (+1: 506k/2.9%). Daddy Daycare had 1.01m (4.5%) earlier (+1: 108k/0.5%).

NCIS produced strong numbers for Channel 5 averaging 1.89m (7.9%), with Law and Order: Criminal Intent taking 1.18m (6.5%) afterwards.

BBC Two showed Bees, Butterflies and Blooms (1.61m/7.2%) from 8pm, Winterwatch (2.01m/8.5%) from 9pm and Roger and Val Have Just Got In (875k/4.5%) from 10pm.

Overall, BBC One coasted to primetime victory with 21.2%, far ahead of ITV1's 13% (+1: 0.3%). Channel 4 took third place with 7% (+1: 1.2%), and BBC Two's 6.4% only just edged Channel 5's 6.2%.

The Only Way Is Essex remained consistent with 945k (5.1%) on ITV2 from 10pm and 162k on timeshift.
