The three new two-hour films will be set shortly after the end of World War Two, the broadcaster revealed today.
Michael Kitchen will return as Foyle, who will take on a new role as a Senior Intelligence Officer and become immersed in the world of espionage. The stories are all said to be based on true stories from 1946 onwards.
"It's great to be wanted and a pleasure to be back," Kitchen said.
Honeysuckle Weeks is expected to reprise her role as Samantha Stewart, while writer Anthony Horowitz will return to pen the scripts.
"I have returned to Foyle's War because there are still some amazing stories I want to tell," Horowitz said. "The war may be over but Foyle's career goes on."
ITV's Laura Mackie said: "We're delighted to be bringing back one of ITV's most original and successful crime titles. Anthony has found a brilliant and inventive way to move Foyle into the post-war era."
Rumours of a new series for Foyle's War intensified earlier this month after cast member Julian Ovenden confirmed that a new series was a "possibility".
The new episodes will be aired on ITV1 in 2013.
