David Tennant, Tom Jones, Emma Thompson for new Sky Arts shows

Sky Arts has unveiled its upcoming lineup of new comedy and drama series.

David Tennant, Emma Thompson and Martin Shaw will star in a new collection of drama productions titled Playhouse Presents for the channel.

Thompson will appear in a comedy drama about the 1982 event in which Michael Fagan broke into The Queen's bedchambers at Buckingham Palace.

Tennant will star as an artist called Will in The Minor Character from Will Self, while Martin Shaw appears in City Hall, which focuses on a woman who becomes a viral hit after standing up to rioters and later becomes the mayor of London.

Trevor Eve, Sheila Hancock and Gina McKee will also appear in episodes of Playhouse Presents.

Sir Tom Jones will make his acting debut in Jim Cartwright drama King of the Teds as Ron, who is made redundant from working at a bottle factory, with Alison Steadman and Brenda Blethyn also starring.

The Simpsons and Spinal Tap actor Harry Shearer will play Richard Nixon in Nixon's The One, which is based on over 198 recordings made between 1971 and 1973.

Paul O'Grady and Sandi Toksvig will also star in new series Nellie and Melba.

Sir Michael Parkinson will make his TV comeback on the channel for his new Masterclass interview series.
