The legendary British talkshow host, who retired his iconic Parkinson series in 2007, is returning to front a Masterclass series with Sky Arts.
Parkinson, who interviewed stars and famous faces such as Tony Blair, Muhammad Ali and John Lennon during his extensive broadcasting career on the BBC and ITV, has been critical of the decline in TV standards in recent years, taking swipes at reality TV shows and celebrity chat shows.
Digital Spy looks back at Michael Parkinson's best and most memorable interviews:
Ali G meets Parkinson:
Wassup Parky! Booyakasha! Aight! Parkinson finally met his match when it came to blunt, no nonsense interview technique when Sacha Baron Cohen appeared on his talkshow under the comic guise of Staines's favourite son Ali G.
Rod Hull & Emu get up close with Parkinson
Stick Rod Hull's arm up a puppet emu, unleash them on an unsuspecting Parky and watch chaos follow. An interview that Parkinson and the great British public will never forget.
Muhammad Ali battles Parkinson:
Parkinson's most famous interview came when he went head-to-head with the legendary Muhammad Ali. It's still impossible to tear your eyes away now when the pair start jostling for power and square up in some of the best TV interviews you'll ever watch.
Meg Ryan proves awkward for Parkinson:
Parky could usually handle most comers, but an odd performance from Meg Ryan was even too much for the Yorkshireman. Quite what was going through her mind as she stared goggle-eyed into the studio audience, we'll probably never know.
John Lennon gets serious with Parkinson:
One of Parky's most famous ever guests came early on in his career when he managed to scoop a chat with John Lennon. The interview didn't hold any punches as the Beatle was probed about his relationship with Yoko Ono.
Victoria Beckham's Goldenballs slip:
It probably wasn't Parky's finest bit of journalism, but the Yorkshireman's bumbling friendly technique managed to get a legendary slip-up out of Spice Girl Victoria Beckham when she revealed an embarrassing nickname for her footballer husband.
A shockingly sober Oliver Reed on Parkinson:
Oliver Reed was always guaranteed interview gold, but usually for the wrong reasons. The Hollywood actor was infamous for turning up pissed on chatshows and causing havoc, but in a rare sober cameo, he gave Parky one his most revealing and personal interviews.
